Ms. Neena Singh

Ms Neena Singh, an alumnus of Lady Irwin College, New Delhi, started her career as an educationist in Modern High School for Girls where she taught for 24 years. Her abiding belief in the benefits of all-round education led her to becoming involved with the school’s extra-circular activities like sports, Girl Guides and school trips in India and abroad.

In 1998, she began a revolutionary concept called ED PLUS, an after-school programme for children needing remedial classes. In 1992 she started Divyayan Montessori, at Hazra, Calcutta’s first progressive integrated Montessori.

She is the Co-Founder and currently the Executive Director of AKSHAR an integrated school started in 1999.  In Akshar 20 per cent children have learning difficulties but each ‘special’ child has a learning programme suited to his or her needs

Believing in the right of every child to education she established Disha Foundation at Manoharpukur Road which admits children from economically weaker sections of society. This was set-up to prevent drop-outs and improve education standards of children in the slums of Ward 84.  Disha started with 6 children and now has 300 on its rolls.

In January 2010 Ms. Neena Singh, Chairperson of Disha Foundation, received The Ladies Study Group  Award from His Holiness Dalai Lama for the good work being done  in the field of education.

Ms. Neena Singh has also been the recipient of the following awards:
