In 1998, she began a revolutionary concept called ED PLUS, an after-school programme for children needing remedial classes. In 1992 she started Divyayan Montessori, at Hazra, Calcutta’s first progressive integrated Montessori.
She is the Co-Founder and currently the Executive Director of AKSHAR an integrated school started in 1999. In Akshar 20 per cent children have learning difficulties but each ‘special’ child has a learning programme suited to his or her needs
Believing in the right of every child to education she established Disha Foundation at Manoharpukur Road which admits children from economically weaker sections of society. This was set-up to prevent drop-outs and improve education standards of children in the slums of Ward 84. Disha started with 6 children and now has 300 on its rolls.
In January 2010 Ms. Neena Singh, Chairperson of Disha Foundation, received The Ladies Study Group Award from His Holiness Dalai Lama for the good work being done in the field of education.
